PORTO CESAREO

La città di Porto Cesareo è un piccolo comune della provincia di Lecce nel Salento, un luogo molto caratteristico e ricco di bellezze naturali. Negli ultimi anni ha conosciuto un forte sviluppo turistico ed economico, pur prestando grande attenzione agli interessi ambientali del proprio territorio.
Oltre alla sua bellezza naturale, lungo Porto Cesareo sono numerose le torri costruite in epoca aragonese, come Torre Castiglione, Torre Lapillo e Torre Chianca ai confini della provincia di Taranto. Il luogo rappresenta un punto storico di difesa contro le numerose incursioni saracene e di difesa del territorio con le sue ricchezze agricole. La sua struttura è prevalentemente tufacea, ed è stata progettata per avere un sistema difensivo che gli permettesse di comunicare con Torre Chianca e Torre Squillace. Il maestro Virgilio Pugliesi fece costruire questa meravigliosa torre dopo il feudo di Nardò (che comprende anche l'attuale Porto Cesareo) di Belisario Acquaviva di Aragona, premiato dal re Ferdinando d'Aragona e dalla regina Isabella di Chiaromonte, nell'ambito della guerra d'Italia Un dono in aiuto Salendo verso Torre Castiglione, troviamo un luogo caratterizzato da siti geologici con rarità carsica molto importanti e caratteristiche della zona, come le "Spunnulate" situate nella macchia mediterranea, anche se solo per noleggiare una bici è ottimo anche per ammirazione.
Museo marittimo dedicato all'esposizione della flora, della fauna marina e degli habitat naturali presenti sul territorio, la Marine Life Station è oggi parte autonoma del Dipartimento di Biologia dell'Università di Lecce. La riserva marina comprende sette torri costiere, ottimi siti storici da visitare per gli appassionati delle grandi storie del passato della regione, e la costa ionica del Salento è vista come protagonista del progetto di difesa a causa delle minacce del mare. Alcuni di loro sono Torre Lapillo, Torre Castiglione, Torre Uluzzo e la stessa Torre Cesarea.

Few can boast of living here. One of the most beautiful maritime cities in the world, if not the most beautiful in Italy.

The town of Porto Cesareo is a small municipality in the province of Lecce in Salento, a very characteristic place rich in natural beauty. In recent years it has experienced strong tourist and economic development, while paying great attention to the environmental interests of its territory.
In addition to its natural beauty, along Porto Cesareo there are numerous towers built in the Aragonese period, such as Torre Castiglione, Torre Lapillo and Torre Chianca on the borders of the province of Taranto. The place represents a historic point of defence against the numerous Saracen raids and defence of the territory with its agricultural wealth. Its structure is mainly tuffaceous, and it was designed to have a defensive system that allowed it to communicate with Torre Chianca and Torre Squillace. Master Virgilio Pugliesi had this marvellous tower built after Belisario Acquaviva of Aragon's feud of Nardò (which also includes today's Porto Cesareo), awarded by King Ferdinand of Aragon and Queen Isabella of Chiaromonte, as part of the War of Italy A gift in aid As we climb towards Torre Castiglione, we find a place characterised by geological sites with very important karstic rarities characteristic of the area, such as the "Spunnulate" located in the Mediterranean maquis.
A maritime museum dedicated to exhibiting the flora, marine fauna and natural habitats present in the area, the Marine Life Station is now an autonomous part of the Department of Biology of the University of Lecce. The marine reserve includes seven coastal towers, excellent historical sites to visit for fans of the great stories of the region's past, and the Ionian coast of Salento is seen as a protagonist in the defence project against threats from the sea. Some of them are Torre Lapillo, Torre Castiglione, Torre Uluzzo and Torre Cesarea itself.
