OTRANTO
Otranto si trova sulla costa adriatica della penisola salentina, nel punto più orientale della costa italiana, a circa 45 chilometri da Lecce, su un costone roccioso a picco sul mare.

L'UNESCO ha riconosciuto il "Borgo Antico di Otranto" come patrimonio culturale di "Messaggero di Pace".
Il viaggio inizia al Lungomare degli Eroi ai piedi dell'antico borgo. Superato il Monumento al Martire, opera dello scultore Antonio Bortone, si scende per le scale e attraverso la Porta Alfonsina si arriva nel centro storico con il maniero aragonese e i resti della cattedrale, distrutto dai Turchi nel 1480.
Oltre il centro abitato, rimarrai incantato dai laghi verde smeraldo incastonati tra le colline color corallo delle cave di bauxite, mentre il maestoso faro di Punta Palascìa rischiara le notti di questo bellissimo paese.

Il mitologico approdo dell’eroe Enea è Porto Badisco che custodisce i pittogrammi che affrescano le pareti della Grotta dei Cervi, la “Sistina del Neolitico”.

Percorri la parte più antica di Otranto e sarai immerso nel fascino millenario di un borgo circondato da mura aragonesi con case bianche e un labirinto di strade lastricate in pietra che convergono verso una cattedrale romanica, caratterizzata da un magnifico rosario rinascimentale. All'interno si trova un prezioso pavimento musivo realizzato dal monaco Pantaleone nel XII secolo, con tanto di immagini medievali raffiguranti l'Albero della Vita e scene che mescolano sacro e mondano. Da non perdere il castello fatto costruire da Alfonso d'Aragona alla fine del 1400, strettamente legato ai bastioni e scenario di mostre ed eventi d'arte.
Otranto non è solo terra di storia, arte e natura. La vita notturna si accende nel vespro dopo gli aperitivi in ​​spiaggia o nel centro storico.

Otranto is located on the Adriatic coast of the Salento peninsula, at the easternmost point of the Italian coast, about 45 kilometres from Lecce, on a rocky ridge overlooking the sea.

UNESCO has recognised the 'Borgo Antico di Otranto' as a cultural heritage 'Messenger of Peace'.
The journey begins at the Lungomare degli Eroi at the foot of the ancient village. Past the Monument to the Martyr, the work of the sculptor Antonio Bortone, you go down the stairs and through the Porta Alfonsina you arrive in the historic centre with the Aragonese manor and the remains of the cathedral, destroyed by the Turks in 1480.
Beyond the town, you will be enchanted by the emerald green lakes set among the coral-coloured hills of the bauxite quarries, while the majestic lighthouse of Punta Palascìa lights up the nights of this beautiful town.

The mythological landing place of the hero Aeneas is Porto Badisco, which preserves the pictograms that fresco the walls of the Grotta dei Cervi, the "Sistine of the Neolithic".

Walk through the oldest part of Otranto and you'll be immersed in the age-old charm of a village surrounded by Aragonese walls with whitewashed houses and a labyrinth of stone-paved streets converging on a Romanesque cathedral with a magnificent Renaissance rosary. Inside is a precious mosaic floor made by the monk Pantaleone in the 12th century, with medieval images depicting the Tree of Life and scenes that mix the sacred and the mundane. Don't miss the castle built by Alfonso d'Aragona at the end of the 15th century, closely linked to the ramparts and the setting for art exhibitions and events.
Otranto is not only a land of history, art and nature. Nightlife lights up in the evening after aperitifs on the beach or in the historic centre.
